Military Health and Wellness Month

I am officially declaring October Military Health and Wellness Month.

I would like to invite everyone to participate in making the month of October about improving the Health and Wellness of all Military members. Whether you are active duty, separated, reserve or retired, this month is about you.

It is time to book that appointment that you have been putting off. I have several appointments myself that I can never seem to make time for. There seems to always be something more important to do. There have even been a few times that I tried to schedule my appointment only to be told that there are no appointments available.  October is our month. We must be persistent and book those appointments.

We must commit to making sure that our health is a priority.

It is time to take action to improve our Wellness. If you are having trouble sleeping through the night, if you are feeling stressed, if you have difficulty relaxing, then it is time to think about your wellness. We have to learn the techniques to slow our minds down and relax our bodies. Let’s take this month to become Aware and Adjust our minds & bodies. Can you notice when your shoulders are tense? Are you aware of when you are stressed? Once you are Aware, the next step is to Adjust. Meditation and exercise can help. Meditation improves the mind similarly to how exercise improves the body. Working out is something military members know how to do, but learning to calm our minds takes practice. Try to sit still and clear your mind. The first time I tried this was very challenging, but with time it becomes easier.

We must commit to making sure that our wellness is a priority.

ll bases have services to help military members improve our Health and Wellness. However, if you prefer non base services, all military members and family can call:

1-800-273-8255 Veterans Crisis Line

1-855-VA-WOMEN

1-855-260-3274 Caregiver Support

We must commit to making sure that our health and wellness is a priority.

Reach out to each other and encourage one another to improve our health and wellness this month.
